HDTV - The Latest in Television Technology

HDTV is Replacing Analog TV

In today’s world, every day new mechanical technology is replacing the old one. HDTV or High Definition TeleVision is one such system that is likely to replace analog TV in future. The basic point to ponder on is how does HDTV differ from normal analog TV?

Its high power relates to the number of images shown per second. While an analog TV displays 30 images in a second it is very less when compared to even the lowest resolution monitors. HDTV combines the Dolby Digital Surround Sound with high resolution Digital TeleVision.

The edge of this new mode over normal TV lies in its greater number of pixels. A Pixel is defined as an individual tiny dot of light that eventually forms the image on a television or computer screen. While a normal TV offers about 210.000 pixels a HDTV, setup has a resolution of about 2.000.000 pixels. Thus, it gives about 10,000 times extra detail of pictures than the former.

The introduction of HDTV will have wider implications. Cable and broadcast companies will have to buy new equipments to suit the need of the new system. The need of top-box to convert the signals may tempt the customers to buy new TV sets all together. With all such necessary changes, it has a long- term future to promise.
